There has been many a Christmas film which showcases the part where the annual tradition of putting up the Christmas lights ends in disaster.
However, one man’s heart-in-mouth moment was caught on CCTV as he tried to decorate the outside of his home in time for the festive season.
John Lawless, from West Yorkshire, was luckily not injured when his ladder slipped while he was putting up the decorations, causing him to fall to the ground in a shocking moment which was captured on his Ring camera, as reported by Hull Live.
John fell face-first from his first-floor gutters, straight through a Christmas tree and onto the drive below.

He said: “I’d been up and down all morning and whether I was overconfident or not I don’t know.
“The wife had been standing on the bottom of the ladder all morning and I didn’t realise she wasn’t there.”
His wife Catherine can be seen on the video, trying to help after the shocking fall.

John was pretty upbeat about escaping with bruising to his arm and some cuts on his face from the Christmas tree.
He added: “That Christmas tree at the bottom went down the side of my face and took quite a bit of skin off the forehead, side of my nose and my cheek but it also cut the inside of my mouth. But it’s all right, I can live with that.”
John is well-known in the community through his volunteering.

He is now well-known on social media as well after two of his daughters posted the video on TikTok.
The clip has now had over one million views.
“I guess you could say that,” laughed John, when asked if he is now TikTok famous.
