More and more businesses are turning to social media platforms to help get the word out about their products and services, and to promote any special events or offers. Starting a business page on Facebook is easy and free. Creating a business Facebook account is similar to creating your personal Facebook account — thee main difference is the information Facebook prompts you to provide.
Access Your Personal Facebook Account
If you don’t have a personal Facebook account, you’ll need to sign up for one. This is a requirement from Facebook — you need to have a personal account before you can open a business page. You don’t necessarily have to display any of your personal information or anything that associates you personally with the business on your business page, however, so it’s easy to keep your personal and business lives separate if that’s your preference. Once you’re on your personal Facebook page, follow the following process to create your page.
Click the Arrow in the Top Right Corner
The arrow you’re looking for is a downward-facing arrow and is the icon to the far right on the blue header bar on your Facebook page. When you click it, you will see a drop down menu with several options.
Select “Create Page” from the Drop-down Menu.
When you click on “Create Page,” Facebook will offer you several options for the type of business page you want to create. Your choices will include:
- Local business or place
- Company, organization or institution
- Brand or product
- Artist, band or public figure
- Entertainment
- Cause or community
Choose the one that is appropriate to your business or organization.
Enter Your Business Information
Fill out the form asking you to choose a business category, and include additional information such as your business’ name, location and contact information. Click on the “Get Started” button at the bottom of the form.
Add a Picture and Favorite
You can add a photo that represents your business, an image of your company’s logo or other promotional graphics. The process is the same as it is for adding a picture to your personal Facebook page.
If you’d like easier access to your business Facebook page from your personal Facebook page, click “Add to Favorites.” If you don’t want your business page in your favorites, click “Skip.”
Enter Audience Information
Facebook then asks for the type of audience you are trying to reach. The information includes location, gender, age and interests. You do not need to fill this out, but doing so helps Facebook determine who it will show your page to and helps you target your desired audience.

Facebook will provide you with opportunities to run advertisements for a price. If you don’t want to buy advertising on Facebook, simply press “Skip.”
